  • Responsibilities : 

    • MS SQL Server Databases Maintenance, Administration & troubleshooting.

    • Setup Test, Dev., Staging and Production Environments.

    • Design database Backup and Restoration Strategy.

    • Setup High-Availability as part Disaster Recovery Strategy for the Databases. (Fail-over Clustering, , Log Shipping and Replication)..

    • Troubleshoot various problems that arise in a day-to-day work and fix the issues. (Monitoring SQL Server Error Logs and checking your email alert.

    • Monitoring and Performance Tuning; Server Level settings, Database level settings, query tuning, memory settings, monitoring CPU usage and Disk I/O activity etc.).

    • Handling multiple SQL Instances on Cluster environment for Server Consolidation projects built on SAN using RAID levels.

    • Setup and maintain documentation and standards.

    • Installing and configuring SQL Server 2000, 2005 (32 and 64 bit) on Standalone and Microsoft Clustered servers.

    • Applying latest Service Packs and Hot fixes and successfully Upgrading of SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005.

    • Creating SSIS / DTS packages to pull data from Oracle, Access and Flat Files.

    • Creating  and scheduling jobs to setup log shipping between production servers.

    • Creating databases and logins with permissions in SQL Server 2005 as per the developer’s request.

    • Involved in Data modeling; designing and building relational databases.

    • Used DDL and DML for writing triggers, stored procedures, and data manipulation.

    • Creating and managing schema objects such as tables, views, indexes and referential integrity depending on user requirements and converting them into technical specifications.

    • Creating Linked Servers between SQL server 2000 and 2005 servers.

    • Creating a mirrored database on the report server using Database Mirroring with high performance mode.

    • Migrated DTS packages from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 as SSIS packages.

    • Day-to-day activities like taking backup (or schedule the backups daily/weekly/monthly for database using Red gate SQL backup tool) on disk and restore the databases and transaction log on production/development servers as per requirement.

    • Creating cluster/non-cluster indexes on the tables, create views, cursors, tables, stored procedures and triggers. Trace out for any table required any indexes and determine the type of index on it.

    • Working closely with Application Developers in optimizing the query performance, Tuning stored procedures taking long time in production environment and performance monitoring using SQL Profiler.

    • Involved in database designing using Normalization.

    • Schema Changes to the database as per application team requirement.

    • Database Maintenance by script/wizard for SQL 2005 and 2000

    • Used DTS/BCP, BULK INSERT for data transfer.

    • Query Optimization for SQL queries.
